Try and try again

OK gang, i'm not going to make my first 5k this weekend. I headed out again today for a try at a 5k distance. I got to the same spot as last time and my same leg cramped up in the same spot! Crazy. The cramp wasnt' as bad as the first one, but I knew I'd be sorry if I continued on and then couldn't make it back home. I was able to walk home at a comfortable pace. So 1.5 miles in around 17 minutes.

Oh well - I think I have alot to learn about hydration. I don't drink much water unless you count the water in a Sonic Route 44 tea. If you count that, then I have 44-88 ounces a day of water! I guess I'll start popping some salt tablets and potassium.

Thanks for asking Cassie :)

More water should help...when its this hot, try to drink at least 40 oz per day in addition to the tea...it's not too bad. I should help the cramps. I would also recommend rolling the muscle...you can use a rolling pin. Lay down and relax the muscle and have edwin roll the rolling pin up and down, pushing down as mucha s you can take. It will help- promise!

I pretty sure I'm doing the one in August.

Thanks for all the advice. I've never aspired to be a runner, now i'm mad at myself that my leg keeps giving up on me :)

Hey, Donna! Tommy sent me the link to your blog. I'm excited to have a girls' blog to read. Those guy blog somehow just don't do it for me much of the time.

About the water... 3 weeks ago I started drinking 100 oz. of water a day. It's 6-7 water bottles a day. I get a new bottle in the morning and refill it with either bottled water at home or the water cooler water at the office. Tea is a luxury and only after I've had all the water or if I know I will meet my water goal I'll have some with dinner. Anyway... I'm not a big drinker. There was a time when diet coke was it all day long and then I switched to tea which was better, but I have noticed such a difference with the water. For the most part my water bottle is with me wherever I go. I don't even chew much gum now because if I have gum it keeps me from drinking. It did take some adjusting but after three weeks, I'm hooked and hope to keep this up.

Although I've run in the past, you won't see me running due to foot issues (neurmoa's, bunions, you name it) - I really don't enjoy running anyway. The only good part of running to me is watching the pounds melt away quicker. I've been walking for the past month+ with my sister. 1 hour or so 5-6 days/week, not fast but enough to get the heart rate up and sweat alot! It is sooo hot here even at 5:45 in the morning!! We're going to walk the Houston 1/2 marathon in January. Figure we will enjoy talking to each other for several hours straight!

Way to go on the "road to the new you!" I hope I can be of encouragement to you.

You've got one new blog reader! See you at church!

Andrea

P.S. My comments won't always be this long - I promise!
